“The economic crisis in the U.S. will require tough national and household decisions. And yet every day in the developing world, 1.4 billion people are forced to decide how to spend their total daily income of $1.25 or less. At the same time, we spend more than $2 billion a week on the war in Iraq, theoretically to stop terrorism and make the world safer.
A fraction of that sum spent toward achieving the Millennium Development Goals and alleviating the worst aspects of poverty in the developing world will do far more toward creating a safer and more stable world. Let's call on Congress to reform foreign aid.”
