Who We Are

Key Partners of the Puget Sound Millennium Goals Project:

The United Nations Association of Seattle is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, part of a national network of the United Nations Association-USA. UNA Seattle educates people about the UN through presentations to schools and community groups, and displays at many community events. Annual events include UN Day, Human Rights Day and a High School Essay Contest. We partner with many community groups to bring expert local, national and international speakers to the public. Students can learn about the UN at the high school and elementary level. Our Advocacy Committee urges UNA-USA members to visit Members of Congress to urge their support of the UN, be it payment of dues or signing treaties. We offer events for young adults-- Young Professions for International Cooperation (YPIC) and for college and university students--Student Alliance

Bread for the World Bread is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities in which we live.

RESULTS is a national grassroots citizen's lobby whose purpose is to create the political will to end hunger and poverty. Non-partisan and non-cynical, we empower strong voices in the community and in Congress to make the needs of children and our world's poorest citizens the highest priority of governments. RESULTS has a strong Seattle chapter that actively engages with the media, our political leaders, and local poverty and health-focused organizations.

SeattleONE is part of the national ONE campaign - Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life - united as ONE - to help make poverty history. We are raising public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems in the world's poorest countries. ONE believes that the US has a rare opportunity to provide more and better aid targeted towards providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries. SeattleONE organized the Seattle STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY 2007, that saw more than 23 million people world-wide show their support for efforts to eliminate extreme poverty and hunger.

Sources of Support for the Project

We would like to thank the Seattle International Foundation for its grant in general support of the Project. We also appreciate the assistance received from the Center for Global Studies at the University of Washington's Jackson School in presenting our public forums. Additionally, we extend our thanks to the United Nations Association Chapter of Metropolitan Seattle, which in addition to being a partner organization, contributes in-kind assistance for project operations.
